According to modern history Yuri Gagarin
was the first man in Space

The question of who was the first man in space is open to interpretation. Modern history books credit the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin with this honor.

It's a safe bet for now although history books are only as good as the beliefs of those who write and teach their content. Perhaps one day, several generations from now or sooner maybe, our children will look back on the modern day history books and talk about their content as we today talk about the homeric poetic superstitions of a past that may have existed even before the Sumer cradle of civilization.

That remains to be seen.

Today's generation is riding a unique wave in a time capsule called earth.

The initial studies of the cosmos and of the universe that surrounds our planet have led mankind on a quest for knowledge about who it is that we are. Those studies did not start in 1961 or the years that preempted the first flights away from the solid security of earth.

However, unless time teaches us differently then we are the first generations to have developed the technology capable of rendering these feats possible.

What have we achieved that our ancestors could only dream and write legends and folklore stories about ?

The best way to explore our achievements is perhaps to look at our world from the invention of the satellites. Here are objects that rotate around the Earth and send back signals for our benefit. Google Earth is definitely the best but not the only such device for the enjoyment of the general public.

Then if that's not enough we have pictures delivered to us on the news and on the internet from the international space station. Here's a technical phenomenon that is orbiting some 350 km above the earth while we continue to assemble what could become tomorrow's lifeline to humanity.

And all of this couldn't be possible if it were not for the efforts of those who have taught of, designed, and built earth foundations such as the kennedy centre where launches are carried out.

We are on a wave of heightened awareness already, yet we seem to be on the verge of a total meltdown and depending on which 2012 enthusiast or interpreter you ask, we may not get to see the results of our greatness. Then again, the extra ground, though in a different ocean, that such missions into the outer bounds of our earth create, given the right amount of time and brainwork, may be our lifeline into the future and perhaps the new tower of Babylon where we reach further into the outer dimensions of the universe.
