2012 Venus Transit Captain Cook and The Voyager Explorer Endeavour.

One may ask what a famous sea explorer of the 18th Century has to do with the Mayan Calendars, the Winter Solstice and end time prophecy?

James Cook entered the navy as a youth. He honed his seaman skills while serving the British King at a time when the Americas were reforming. His captains ship sailed into the St. Lawrence Seaway in the Northern Atlantic waters. The ruling influence was changing in Canada, the USA, Britain, and around the world during these times of revolution.

James Cook survived this voyage. The British Royal Navy saw merit in his leadership skills and seamanship and raised him in rank to lieutenant, and then to Captain.

Captain Cook sailed to around the world several times during his career with the Royal Navy. In 1767, as a sea voyager/ explorer he was sailing on the Dolphin around Cape Horn in the southern seas and wrote in his log about "gems of the sea". These were the magnificent islands surrounded by lavendar waters and corals of awesome beauty.

In 1769, the British scholars were aware that there would be a rare opportunity to study the passage of Venus has it made it's cyclic journey in front of the Sun. They hired Captain Cook to pilot the Endeavor and loaded their telescopes on the ship. The sea voyage of the Endeavour was going to allow them to measure the distance to the sun and the behaviour of other cosmic points relative to the Venus Transit. This knowledge would in turn allow them to advance their map making skills.

Ironically some very harsh weather forced the endeavour onto one of the islands which Cook had explored on a previous voyage. This time he met up with strange beings who colored the skin. While Captain Cook was playing politics with the savages, along with the ships astronomer Charles Green, he was also busy making drawings and observation of the Venus Transit of 1769.

The drawings are recorded in the1771 Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, Vol 61, p. 410.

Captain Cooks exotic sea voyages were similar to the missions of NASA today. The Endeavour was sailing into the great unknown and researching. This scientific field work was planned on previous knowledge and the results or observations made during the voyages were brought back to the land based institutions for further study.

Today we are in 2008, which is a mid point between the 2004 and 2012 occurences of the Venus transit. This event will not occur again during the course of the lifetime of anyone alive today. In this sense it is an end time prophecy. See it now since you will not be around to see it again.

The technology may have changed and the astronomers may be travelling on different types of ships but the mission is the same and the questions are the same.

What can we learn from the Venus Transit that is schedualed for June of 2012?

Image Hosted by ImageShack.usWe are on a mission. Are there others who look like us or think like us? Is there more to the Venus Transit of 2012? If we take Captain Cook and the Royal Society's mapping mission seriously, then shouldn't we also take the Mayans calendars mapping mission seriously? Is there a correlation between the Venus Transit of June 2012 and the Winter Solstice of December 2012?

There is so much more one could learn about the Venus Transit by simply reading the logs of Captain Cook and those who were recording world events in 1769.
