Transition is Change.
A transit is simply a way of saying that one object enters the path of another object. A transit is the displacement of something from one location to another. Transition is change. In astronomy a transit occurs when an object moves in front of the telescope lens, or when one cosmic body moves in front of another cosmic body. In astrology a transit occurs when a planet or cosmic body positions itself in the meridian of an another object or specific point in the horoscope. The meridian circle is a measuring instrument which is used to gauge the declination, or the position, of heavenly bodies. This graduated vertical scale predicts the time of meridian transits.
Venus is Change.

The Venus Transit is Change.

The Earth and all other celestial bodies revolve around the Sun. Each planet has it's own orbit and depending on your field of view then each planet can be observed in transit against another celestial object.
When the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and the Earth then this is what is referred to as the Venus Transit. What you see from the an Earth perspective is nothing overly spectacular. It is a dot.
This cosmic event is cyclic in nature. There is an eight year short cycle combined with a longer 243 year cycle. Within a period of 8 years those fortunate enough to be living get to witness two transitions. The first of these transit of the short cycle occured on June 8, 2004. The next short cycle Venus transit is schedualed to occur on June 6, 2012.
Once these short cycles Venus Transits pass then the longer 243 year cycle will resume it's course of influence. This longer cycle also is dual. It is split at approximately 122 years. So every 122 years the 8 year cycles repeats itself.
The last long Venus Transit cycle occured in 1874 and 1882. The next is scheduled for 2117 and 2125.
Although the majority of 243 years Venus cycles show up with double short transits of 8 years there are exceptions to this rule. Some long Venus Transit cycles produce only one passage of the planet.
In a process called the Venus-Earth Synodal Cycle the Earth and Venus line up on an axis to the Sun at a ratio of 2.6 to 1.6.
The Synodal cycle can result in an inferior conjunction or a superior conjunction. During a superior conjunction the three celestial bodies are Earth : Sun : Venus.
The opposite is true for an inferior conjunction. Earth : Venus : Sun.
To learn more about the astrological meanings of Venus i found Nick Fiorenza's explanation complete yet a bit Technical. see Cycles of the Heart at Lunar Planner.
Do these Venus Transit events cause natural disturbances on Earth?
As stated before the last transit occured on June 8, 2004. That year saw it's share of natural disasters and other phenomenon. 2004 was the year that a megathrust earthquake measuring 9.0 on the richter scale shook the ocean floor and sent Tsunami waves crashing into land mass. These natural processes created chaos in the biological world. The entire psyche of man was jolted into a new reality has news spread throughout the world. This was but one such natural phenomenon that marked 2004.
What can we expect from the 2012 Venus Transit?
While some schools of thought want to stay focused on the positive side and explain 2012 as either a fantasy in the hands of capitalist, or a metaphysical event that will see the consciousness level of the human family rise to a higher level, others see a dismal fate for our global civilization where the cataclysmic events of 2004 are but a hint of what will happen to us come June 2012. The apocalyptic school of thought don't give us much chance of survival as a species. They tell us to prepare for the end of the world and they point to end time prophecy to support their voice. To some end timers it is not a matter of changing our ways since there is nothing we can do has a species to convince mother nature to change her course. To the more Biblical end timers who tell us that though some will survive, the great majority won't.
